Does anyone have any advice on ceramic hobs?

my old electric cooker has finally given up and gone kaput! so, i now have to buy a new one but am looking for some user advice on ceramic hobs. i know that they heat up quicker and so on, but how durable are they? do they scratch easily? how long do they last? things like that. any advice greatly received. i've had a good look on google for any consumer advice, but can't seem to find anything useful at all!Does anyone have any advice on ceramic hobs?
Hi there. I've had ceramic hobs for 25 years or more and never scratched one yet. They are very durable as long as you remember one thing......sugar is the killer of ceramic hobs so don't spill custard, sweet sauces, jam etc., on the surface and if you do, wipe it up immediately and I mean, immediately.

A quick wipe over every time you use it will mean that you never have to go to extremes to clean it, but wait until it is cold before you do.

Remember you can switch it off a minute or two before the end of the cooking time as the residual heat in the glass will keep your food cooking and save you money on electricity.

If you can get them, glass pans are the best for anything which does not stick such as boiled eggs, vegetables etc., but not pasta, sauces etc.

If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with me direct and I will be happy to help.

P.S. I detest gas too. I'd have a gas hob ripped out even if it were brand new.Does anyone have any advice on ceramic hobs?
don't get another electric monstrosity.... can't you get a gas cooker fitted?? much better!!
agree with the positive. had mine for 15 years, it is great. just treat as per instructions and all is fine.
Errrr what would you like to know ? I've had mine for 14 years it cleans up beautifully, i just just use jiff now ciff . For stuck on spills they supply you with a razor tool ,(its a razor blade in plastic, sounds weird but it works ) that scraps it off .As i said had mine 14years no scratches , an am still very happy with it .
we have just had a new touch control ceramic hob. Nightmare at first to get it on. Now easy. If you have any spillage just scrap off with a glass scraper (You can find expensive gadgets to do this but the scraper does the same job at a fraction of the price and you will get them from any DIY store). Wipe it over with a spot of Hobbrite and kitchen roll and it looks like new again

Go for it
I love ceramic hobs....find they are adjustable, clean, and have some good features such as only coming on when a pan is placed on them....downside is you have to clean on a daily basis to stop food burning onto them...and be careful not to scratch them with knives or similar....Love them to bits, but wait and see what others say.
I have a ceramic hob and would not have any other kind. It doesn't scratch and is very easy to keep clean. You need to use a specialist cleaner and kitchen roll but it is literally wipe on, wipe off. I also find it very easy to control the heat. I've had mine for 5 years and it's still as good as new.
I've had mine years, its my second one. they're great and easy to clean, i even managed to melt, (well burn actually)plastic onto mine! thought it was wrecked. but scraped off what i could, then spayed with ';fairy power spray'; left it for about half an hour, cleaned it of and its as good as new....
