I am use to big heavy meals and I am finding myself always hungry now that I have reduced my caloric intake from pretty much anything to 1500 a day. Besides drinking lots of water, what else can I do to feel full and stop the desire of going on a food binge and then feeling guilty afterwards.Ok...What advice can be given to someone whom is on a diet, but they are big eaters in general?
Eat cabbage it fills you up. Also low sodium soup broth. Celery. Go for walks, do crossword puzzles and word games when you feel hungry. A glass of milk and a banana always fills you up too.Ok...What advice can be given to someone whom is on a diet, but they are big eaters in general?
Eat denser but healthier foods. Oatmeal is a great example. You could also drink more water and break your large meals into 6 small ones per day. In the morning eat high-carb (healthy) foods, such as whole grain bread, oatmeal, fresh fruit, and healthy granola. Distribute protein equally throughout all meals, and try to consume most of your healthy fats (olive oil, nuts and legumes, natural or organic peanut butter, coconut, etc) at night. Eat dairy with your fats before bed so your body can undergo slow digestion as you sleep (I liked to mix peanut butter into cottage cheese, sometimes with protein powder added).
Don't diet, try a new, nutritional lifestyle. Excercise atleast 4 times a week and drink a lot of water.
Depending on what type of diet you're on, you should be able to eat a lot of the low-cal veggies. Carrots, spinach, cabbage, broccoli, celery, etc are all very low calorie so you could snack on them whenever you want. Just avoid the higher calorie foods so you don't waste your 1500 on a few main foods.
Munch on something small every few hours (called grazing)... it keeps your metabolism going and is much better for losing weight than a few big meals. And don't skip breakfast, even if it's just oatmeal or fruit.
If you're used to eating sugar, the less you eat of it, the less often you'll crave it. Really.
A whole-foods diet will have you absolutely stuffed at 1500 calories. Cut out processed food- not only does processed food hinder fat loss, but since it is so processed, it doesn't do a very good job of filling you up. An example of a whole-foods meal: 4oz. skinless chicken breast (seasoned) with 1/2 cup of brown rice and 2 cups of green salad with vegetables and light dressing. Eat Oatmeal and egg whites for breakfast- oatmeal will keep you stuffed all morning and give you plenty of energy without making you fat.
Vegetables- eat a ton of vegetables at every meal and you'll be stuffed. You'll also be giving your body the nutrients that it needs so you won't feel as hungry all the time. Many times people feel hungry so often because their bodies are lacking nutrients.
Fats- the right blend of fats is crucial. Keep your fat intake between 18-20% of your total daily calories. (about 31g per day on a 1500 cal. diet) Supplement with flax seed and/or fish oil and factor that into your fat intake. Get a small amount of saturated fat daily to feel your best and feel satisfied- just a little. Break up that fat intake and spread it out between your meals, but eat less fat in the morning, and more toward the evening.
Also, check and see if you're an emotional eater. Emotional eaters eat to feel better emotionally, and may have trouble feeling when they are actually full.
Another thing I recommend to my clients is to have a ';free meal'; once per week, where they are free to enjoy any food they want, as much as they want. The only rule is that the meal must be eaten within an hour and a half, so that way it doesn't become a binge. This will keep you sane and will not harm your fat loss efforts at all! In fact, a ';free meal'; will help reset your metabolism so that your body does not ';figure out'; your diet and start hording fat. The key is that it's only one meal, once per week though.
Also, you'll want to eat every 3 hours. At first this seems difficult, but you'll get the hang of it. If you're somewhere where you can't actually eat something, have a protein shake at least. You want to keep your blood sugar even. Even blood sugar mean less temptation to eat bad stuff and better fat loss results by keeping your metabolism burning.
bread seems to fill me up when i don't eat that much of it. eat really small meals but do it frequently, it might help.
celery, all that chewing will exhaust you, snack on veggies and if you need a little boost some almonds etc.
I am on a diet like that too... I was like that in the beginning I was always thinking i'm hungry... I mean I got a large family and I grew up always having large meals... So really you're not hungry you're bored or it just sounds good and you know it tastes good... But basically i've learned it's self discipline... You have to remind yourself you don't want to look this way anymore, you want to be better... Try reading or playing video games or just playing on the computer, something to occupy yourself... Even chewing on gum can help, or get a flavored water, or gatoraide... It's hard in the beginning, but you start to think before you put it in your mouth that you worked out this much and lost this much weight... do you really want to have to start over after coming this far.... So try gum, flavored water or gatoraide, even crackers to snack on (not the whole bag).... or fruit... I've been watching what I eat and finally got to a point of doing about 30 mins every other night, if that (i hate exercising), and in a month in a half i've lost 23 lbs... just keep it up and remind yourself why you are on the diet in the first place... Remember your goal.... Good Luck!
try eating plenty of whole grains and low fat protein as well as healthly fats like olive oil and avocado I lost 14 pounds doing that and had to eat a lot of it too to not feel hungry all the time. Good luck.
then always eat.. Just not fatty, calorie, carb filled meals.
and not until you are 'full', just satisfied.
You being hungry is your body saying you need to eat. But you Don't need to eat pizza, cake, ice-cream, and little debbie's.
Eat things filled with protein. It will help you stay satisfied longer. Eat fruits, veggies, chicken, fish, nuts, yogurts, etc...
stay away from soda's. instead drink unsweetened tea, water, 100% juice, V8, etc...
You don't have to not eat. But, you do have to eat right.
Are you eating the right amounts of foods with the right amounts of protein, fats, carbs, nutrients, vitamins, etc?
You shouldnt be hungry if you make breakfast your biggest meal. Also eating 5-6 times a day every 2-3 hours. Your body usually gets hungry every 3 hours or so. If you send me your meal plan I can adjust it for you because just a few touches can save you from binging. I dont think your meal plan is rightfully set out if your feeling really hungry between meals.
I suggest you look into a stomach band that would make your stomach smaller without dangerous surgery. It has proved to be safe and lower your weight from 50 to 150 pounds.
Try to eat 5 or 6 smaller meals. Also fiber makes you feel fuller. If you only et once oe twice, you body gos into starvation mode and trys to store the fuel as fat.
You need to incorporate snacks.
One after breakfast.
One after lunch.
One after dinner if you need it.
You will plan them and actually put them together so they are right there ready to grab. And so the portion is controlled in advance. This is very important. It is not just any snack. It is a planned, healthy, but interesting/delicious snack. You will have a few combinations that you really like. Keep these always on hand, and always put together ready to grab.
Could be:
baby carrots and small yogurt
cereal bar and strawberries
nuts and apple
cold, cooked cheese raviolis and celery sticks
string cheese and kalamata olives
banana and skim coffee latte
......or whatever sounds good and is healthy
divide your calories into more than just 3 meals if possible. Have a piece of fruit or vegetable a while before meals. It helps me if i plan my day so that it is inconvenient to eat between meals, such as doing any of my homework or such in a library when i can't just wander to my kitchen. the first few weeks will be the hardest, but your stomach will actually shrink and you'll gradually start to become full from smaller amounts of food.
