College student having difficulty expanding and learning new vocabulary, any suggestions or advice?

Little by little I make attempts to learn new vocabulary particulaly because the reading from the textbooks are so dense and some of the terms are just completly incomprehesible and i have some difficulty remembering their definitions. Is there a way that helps you facilitate you're ability to learn to vocabulary terms? What helps you in understanding and remembering them?College student having difficulty expanding and learning new vocabulary, any suggestions or advice?
Flash cards! Seriously, if you are having difficulty with remembering definitions, look the word up in a dictionary and write it out on an index card. You can write the book title and page number on the card which will allow you to go back and look at the term in the context it was written. You would be amazed how often you can review material from flash cards and how well it will sink in. I used flash cards in a lot of courses when I was an undergrad and it really helped.

Have a dictionary (subject specific if necessary) beside you as you read. When you come upon an unknown word, look it up and also take the time time to think some about the word and what it means in relation to how it is used in the book
