A person posted a question in which they admitted to animal abuse. They asked for advice on what to do. I answered that they should turn themselves in to their local animal control office. Much to my surprise, I was penalized for violating the terms, and points were taken from me. Why? I appealed, and lost. Why? Don't the terms say that posting about criminal behavior is against the rules. In my answer, I was straightforward, but not abusive, mean or rude. Why did they penalize me?Why does Yahoo penalize members for good advice?
They penalized you because you DIDN'T answer the question that was being asked!
In cases of something ILLEGAL like this being posted - there is only ONE course of action. It goes by the acronym RAMO:
Report
And
Move
On
There is NO ';valid'; answer you can give to something like this - and by posting ANYTHING in response, you can get dinged one of two ways. The first is called Point Gaming - it's where you post something JUST to get your 2 points. You've probably seen people answer ';I don't know'; (or IDK), ';lol';, or ';Thanx for the 2 points'; - ALL of these are classic examples of Point Gaming.
The second (as I mentioned earlier) is ';Not a question or answer'; - as you did NOT answer what was being asked (and instead gave an OPINION - which differs from an answer). And even though the question was ASKING for opinions (which is ALSO not allowed) - giving one runs you the risk of getting Reported!
I realize that the system is bass-ackwards - and tends to hurt the innocent more than the guilty - but it's all a part of ';life'; around here ;);););)Why does Yahoo penalize members for good advice?
Yahoo's policy for such questions is RAMO -- Report And Move On. If you feel the question is itself a violation, either report it or ignore it. Answering it generally just 'feeds the trolls' and gives them an opportunity to report you, whether rightly or not. If you were turned down on only your first appeal, and still feel your response was valid (which I agree is the case), you can make a final appeal. Often the 1st appeal is turned down, possibly automatically, but final appeals do seem to get personal responses. You may still get turned down again, but at least you will have tried all avenues available to you. The suggestion is that you be polite, clear, concise and to the point when appealing. State simply why you were not in violation; don't into the issue of the question being a violation as well, or other people getting away with worse postings, etc.
Someone asked if they signed up for a particular cell phone company if they'd get service where they lived. I said ';No, you won't, so don't waste your money.'; That was not only an answer to her question, but a piece of advice. So, needless to say, that was a violation and I also appealed and lost.
This is also my third account on here; my first two were deleted for ';violations'; just like that. My ENTIRE accounts, they deleted my freakin' e-mails.
im confused because when i give advice to bad things like the one that said '; my 13 year old is pregnant 3 times and wont stop smoking'; and i said something to help them but i never got points taken away or my profile being deleted
This has happened to me a few times as well.
Don't worry about it. Not worth the bother.
I speak my mind, and it would appear some people did not like what I had to say.
Their problem!
